As of today, Empowered vol.9, the latest installment of my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy*" series published by Dark Horse Comics, hits the shelves of Your Local Comics Store after the better part of two years in the making. (Well, sorta; some poor choices in outside work delayed its production considerably.) Thought I'd post a journal in case any Empowered readers still on DA wanted a place to discuss the book.

Note that, while it's on sale now in comics stores, Empowered vol.9 hits shelves of conventional bookstores (including Amazon, where the book is strangely, even alarmingly inexpensive) on September 2; the latter date is also when digital versions of the volume will become available from Dark Horse Digital and Comixology. More info on Empowered vol.9 can be found here: www.darkhorse.com/Books/25-831…

Here's the book's solicitation copy:

Already under official suspicion by her distrustful superhero peers, costumed crimefighter Empowered finds herself the bewildered target of every major supervillain in the capes-and-tights field for her supposed access to apocalyptic alien technology. With a trick or two up her tattered supersuit's sleeve, can our tirelessly plucky but sadly underestimated heroine outwit her army of tormentors—and escape the long-simmering revenge of the sinister Fleshmaster?

While I'm at it, here are links for preordering a print copy from Dark Horse's retail site: www.tfaw.com/Profile/Empowered… ...or from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Empowered-9-Ada…

Since I got #9 last weekend, I've read it through 3 times and have spot-read it numerous other times. And, let me tell you, p. 218 still gets me every time I read it.

I came into this series at the very beginning for many of "Mightier Pen's" reasons. But the exposition of Emp's empathy, intelligence and bravery has pushed me way past that now. I would almost welcome a volume where she doesn't find herself in Duress Vile at any point. Given the oncoming trains of Ninjette's and Thugboy's backstories, she may find herself VERY busy WITHOUT getting herself lashed to a chair.

Keep up the good work!
