Now that I'm finished with the well-behind-schedule EMPOWERED vol. 4 (now due out Oct. 22nd, apparently, rather than Sept. 12), I'm wrapping up all kinds of miscellanea that wound up being delayed by this most recent State of Deadline Emergency.
Among said miscellanea are a handful of old commissions from the San Diego before last (or thereabouts), including this request for an illo of "Ivy" from Namco's SOUL CALIBUR fighting game. I reffed the piece from some images dating back to the character's first appearances in the series; I was mildly surprised to notice that, at this early point in her existence, Ivy was nowhere near as hugely and pendulously endowed as she wound up in later installments. That was somewhat fortunate for me, as I'm not particularly into drawing the brobdingnagianly ginormous bewbage, as it were. (Sensitivity ahoy!)
Once upon a time, I did play some of the earlier games in the SOUL CALIBUR series... but I've since had to give up the entire fight-game genre, as me poor drawing hand can't cope with games that require extremely repetitive, high-speed button-mashing. I know a few artists who are both highly productive AND fond of heavy-duty fight-game buttonmashery; presumably their hands are made out of carbon fiber, nano-extruded diamond and frickin' adamantium, as opposed to my mere flesh-and-blood appendages...
Anyhoo, the piece is drawn with Mars Lumograph 2mm lead (3B hardness) on linen-finish cardstock.
One of many reasons why i respect and admire your style. the breasts aren't gigantic. and they don't look as if you traced around a coffee cup and called it good.
Re. Adam's sensitivity to drawing huge cartoony titties: I love those kinds of illos, but I realize that unless your name is Masami Obari (e.g. Angel Blade, Gravion), having a female fighter with unfeasibly large tatankas looks a bit wrong. Besides, I've been a fan of Adam's work for so long that I'm willing to cut him a break on the hooter issue.
And I don't mind in the least losing it to her, you know!!!!
It doesn't matter to me if Ivy is drawn in manga/anime style or other.
