Behold, the very first endpage piece I wrote and drew for the videogame magazine PSM... The red lettering was done in-house at PSM, hence the repro from an actual magazine page.
This would be the first of many Metal-Gear-Solid-related jokes, and the first of many, many jokes at Raiden's expense... The poor guy.
Anyhoo, as the caption in the corner makes clear, this is a riff on one of the weirder items from METAL GEAR SOLID 3... The so-called "croc hat*", which I presume Solid Snake could use to sneak on people...? Dunno, never played the game. Wait a second... Would enemies blithely ignore the presence of a very large, very predatory reptile nearby?
*I think that's actually a gharial on his head, not a crocodile per se, but I might be wrong.
Is it sad to say that the only reason i read PSM was for your art? I really didn't like the magazine all that much but I thought the work you did was hilarious. So I bought it.

Well the thing is, MGS3 featured a lot of jungle areas that did have quite the number of crocs in it. I know, I got the deathroll from one of them myself after getting a tad too close. It wasn't just a ridiculous prop for laughter's sake. I used it a couple of times in some areas, it's just one of those items that makes it easier, but isn't a must-have.
really nice, i loved your psm work...
I think that once maybe you did some work that was like... some kind of square RPG that should be made... and you did the art?
There was like a black mage girl and stuff....
I hope you know what i'm taking about.
That was my fave....
If you still have it, i'd love you forever if you posted....

Yep, I remember the piece well... I'll prolly post it on a FAILED-PROJECT FRIDAY at some point (along with some character designs associated with it), as two of the characters from that illo were to have been part of a Wildstorm/ Cliffhanger project that went belly-up.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example.
