Old DIRTY PAIR det-tape drones

Behold, part of a page from my old miniseries Dirty Pair: Plague of Angels, circa 1991. I'm posting this excerpt to show the odd anti-mecha weapon used to destroy Plague's ill-fated XM-104A Stealth Robot: a launcher which dispatches a swarm of drones trailing high-explosive "det tape" in order to cocoon and annihilate the target.

In a subsequent (and likewise quite old) DP* sketch I'll be posting shortly, this concept for a weapon was transmogrified into a less lethal version that wound up playing a kinda-sorta major role in my last Dirty Pair miniseries, Run from the Future. More relevantly, decades later (ouch), this particular "mecha meme" is alive and well and presently showing up in many a piece on dA ... Stay tuned, folks!

Art note: Quite the chore to scan this from the original page, given that the original is breathtakingly huge: we're talking about a 12" X 18" image area on old-school Marvel full-bleed paper that's 13.5" X 20.5"... It's positively brobdingnagian! By comparison, modern Marvel paper has roughly a 10" X 15" full-bleed image area on 11" X 17" board; and I do all my Empowered pages [link] on much, much smaller 8.5" X 11" copy paper. That's just how we kicked it back in the day, yo: effing ENORMOUS. Have to say, I cannot imagine working on a page anywhere near this scale nowadays...

All that effort to rescan from the original, though... and, alas, the scan came out kinda crappy nonethless. Oh, well.
