FREEFALL sketch, from WIZARD by AdamWarren FREEFALL sketch, from WIZARD by AdamWarren
One of the sketches that was used in the "Basic Training" column I did for a 1997 issue of WIZARD magazine... Sadly, I have no scans of the rest of the article, though such scans are no doubt lurking online somewhere.

A photoreferenced sketch of Roxy/ "Freefall" from Wildstorm's GEN13, on linen-finish cardstock, from back in an era when I still drew noses (more or less). Ooh, ah.

The thing I like most about your work is that you can make a female character appealing and enticing without having to draw her with insanely huge breasts. You continue to do it with Empowered's Ninjette and Sistah Spooky. Kudos on that.

Hey, I have that issue :D
I'll admit, Roxy was never my favorite character from Gen13 (it's all about Rainmaker for me) but the way you wrote/drew her made her a close second...

How funny. . . my fiance has saved nearly every Basic Training article. If it's the one about drawing clothes/leather, we have it. XD I clicked because the jacket distinctively reminded me of it.

Haha, I remember those from an old "Learn how to draw Manga" Book I bought in 2000something. Didnīt knew it was from Gen13 back then, but it was very inspirational to me.

Thanks for that I guess :P

Since I first saw your work, you never left my rank of favourite comics' artists, Adam! But I must admit that I was a bit fonder of this era's mouths, though... ^^' hehe

You keep being amazing, anyway, though! ;)

Keep up the great work! :)

I love the shading and detail in sketchs; inking almost always seems to take so much detail out. Sure it makes it vibrant and (duh) colorful, but I have an affinity for heavy detail.

The jacket is the best part of this sketch, great positioning and detail. Your comment on no longer drawing noses made me look back over her nose, lol.
