Here's another title-page illo from EMPOWERED vol. 5, the latest installment of my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy" published by Dark Horse Comics, soon to hit the shelves on June 24, 2009. In this story, our heroine's odd part-time job, "cosplaying" as part of a licensed, "tribute-band" faux version of her own team, runs afoul of a hallucination-inducing, fish-headed supervillain (who may look familiar to readers of EMPOWERED vol. 4).

I wasn't originally planning to post this piece, as it's not terribly exciting and no doubt will garner few pageviews... but I changed my mind due to the fact that most of "Outrageouslah Erroneous" can be read in preview form online. The first three pages of it can be seen here: [link] ...and the entire end of the story can be seen in the clickable thumbnails accompanying this brand-new EMPOWERED-related interview: [link]

Sadly, you won't be able to read the MIDDLE 5 pages of the story (wherein the best jokes, the return of Emp's godawful attempt at a southern accent, and one moment of fair pathos reside) until EMPOWERED 5 goes on sale tomorrow... Oh, well.

In the meantime, you can check out "Empowered’s Top 10 Pros and Cons of Being a Fictional Comic-Book Character," a metatextual text piece wherein our heroine discusses the experience of literally being a figment of my imagination: [link]

I just wrapped up a long, snark-laden, heavily asterisked and parenthetical interview re: EMPOWERED vol. 5, which you can read here: [link]

You can order EMPOWERED 5 online at Dark Horse's retail website at: [link] or at Amazon.com: [link] Keep in mind, though, that while Dark Horse's site has the book in stock, bookstores--including Amazon-- may not get it in stock for some time yet. (Comics retailers, including online sites like TFAW, often get EMPOWERED volumes well before the bookstores do.)

Note that both sites have links for ordering previous EMPOWERED volumes, as well; or, you can quite possibly find these volumes on the shelves of of your friendly neighborhood comics retailer or bookstore, though not at MY local Barnes & Noble, annoyingly enough... And if they don't carry the books, just ask said retailer to order 'em for you; believe me, they'd be happy to take your money.

Actually, I think, you can see those middle pages with Amazon's "Search Inside" feature. Of course, anyone who would repeatedly hit "Surprise Me!" trying to glean what meager previews they could before the official release date would be a pitiable soul...but, ah, I've heard those pages might be there.

Truly, truly, truly outrageous. :D

Gotta love your writing. It makes me wonder if you talk that way too, and how it must sound. Makes me wonder if you spend time voicing the outrageously hammy lines of the Caged Demonwolf at night...

Maybe I'm thinking too much. But I do love some Empowered.

I'm going to guess that the dWARf we're seeing is the "band" version? *must... not... spoil... plot...*
