As advertised, a somewhat "bondage-riffic" page from the upcoming (Oct. 3, 2007) second volume of EMPOWERED, my "sexy superhero comedy" published by Dark Horse Comics.
Just thought I'd post this to warn all y'all that our eponymous heroine, Empowered, does remain just a tad, well, "bondage-prone" in vol. 2. This occurs rather less frequently than in vol. 1, for whatever that's worth, but still...
This time around, Emp's highly unreliable "super-suit" can't be blamed for getting her into trouble, as she was sent in undercover as "Sexy Librarian Bait" to draw the attention of eyeglasses-obsessed supervillain Idea Man, as seen here:
To be honest, I think Idea Man seems a bit too slender and slightly built to be hefting our heroine quite so easily, but what the heck... Perhaps wearing that heavy, ludicrous helmet for so long has helped him develop deceptive upper-body strength?
Have to say, Idea Man's concept for unleashing the apocalypse via "bookish hotness" isn't entirely uninteresting... Not that the reader ever gets all the details of the plan, though! When Emp tries to explain said supervillainous scheme to her inamorata Thugboy in a subsequent scene, he's so addled by lust that he cannot comprehend her exposition (and neither can the reader, alas)...
For the time being, you can see a (bondage-free!) 10-page preview excerpt from EMPOWERED vol. 2 at Publishers' Weekly:
You can preorder EMPOWERED vol. 2 from your local comics retailer or bookstore, or just pick it up at the store next Wednesday (again, Oct. 3rd). Heck, even my local Barnes & Noble briefly stocked EMPOWERED vol. 1, albeit in the jumbled hellscape of the regular comics section, as opposed to the orderly paradise of the manga section... or you can order it from DH online at:
UPDATE: Looks like the book is on track to hit the shelves next week, as I'm supposed to receive my initial advance copy on Friday... Woo, hoo!
Oddly enough, I've already received my comp copies of the collection for IRON MAN: HYPERVELOCITY, the miniseries I wrote and laid out for Marvel earlier this year. The odd part is, the book's not supposed to "drop" until Oct. 10th... Hmm.
(Kidding, kidding! Just throwing in an obscure, half-remembered Power Rangers reference, because I sadly, rarely get such a perfect setup to quote Professor Phenomenus.)
