At Emerald City Comic-Con on April 7-10, I’ll be set up at Artist Alley table Y-1 for any or all of your signing and sketching needs. I’ll be dragging along a portfolio or two of original artwork, and a somewhat limited number of Empowered volumes as well. (Was quite startled to discover that the box of Empowered vol.1 comp copies I’d planned to take to ECCC were all in French. Sacre bleu!

I only have one panel during the show, but it looks very neat: Artists Who Write: On the Craft and Creation of Comics,” Thursday April 7, room T305, from 5:30-6:30 PM.

I’ll also have one signing at the Dark Horse Comics booth (#802), Friday April 8, from 12:00-12:45 PM. We’ll have a special signing card on hand for that occasion, along with copies of miscellaneous Empowered volumes. (Might also have a few new things to show off, possibly…) Swing by and say hi, if you’re in the area!

And of course, in closing I should flog the webcomic serialization of my "sexy superhero comedy" series Empowered, which features extensive commentary on every page posted: www.empoweredcomic.com/
  • Listening to: HARDCORE HISTORY podcast
  • Reading: Ron Chernow's ALEXANDER HAMILTON biography
  • Watching: DAREDEVIL season 2
  • Playing: ODIN SPHERE yet again
  • Eating: Gochujang chili paste, on pretty much everything
  • Drinking: Sam Adams Summer Ale
EMPOWERED vol.10 cover rough by AdamWarren
EMPOWERED vol.10 cover rough
Cover rough for Empowered vol.10, the upcoming (2017) installment in my ongoing "sexy superhero comedy" series. Note that I ditched the ID card and background logos (for the individual SuperHomeys) seen in this rough, as that seemed a bit confusing in retrospect.

Might I mention that Empowered is now being serialized as a webcomic, with extensive commentary on every g-d page?

We'll not be catching up to vol. 10 for quite some time, though, even with a (week)daily release schedule.

Cover inks for EMPOWERED DELUXE vol.3 by AdamWarren
Cover inks for EMPOWERED DELUXE vol.3
Inks for the cover illustration from the third Empowered Deluxe compilation, which collects "regular" Empowered volumes 7-9 in a snazzy hardcover, along with plenty of bonus material. Tentatively slated for the end of 2016; more details to come. BTW, had to ink the whole thing with a Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen (size XS), as the new art board I was trying out just would not "play nice" with my conventional ink tools (Zebra maru quills and Koh-I-Noor tech pen).

If Hollywood ever makes a movie out of EMPOWERED, I think I have the perfect cast.

Hi there, Mr. Warden!
I wanted to come here and say that I'm an admirer of your style and I have to admit, I still have a copy of Titans: Scissors, Paper, Stone. The book still fascinates me to this day.
Thank you for helping my creative juices flow. ^^

Got home to find my copy of "Empowered: Pew Pew Pew" waiting for me in the mailbox. Just finished reading it; loved it of course. Interesting return of your "Smartgun" concept, but I'm wondering;
SPOILER ALERT FOR ANYONE READING THIS WHO HASNT READ "Pew Pew Pew" YET
Are the rampages caused by the smartguns meant to be a commentary on the mass shooting epidemic, or am I reading too much into it?
Thanks in advance for your response. Waiting for Empowered Vol.10

I don't remember if I ever mentioned this story before, but a long time ago, and I mean, a long, long time ago, I was at the San Diego Comicon (I do want to say it was in like 2000, or 2001), and I was at the Powers comics booth, after having gotten some stuff signed by Brian Michael Bendis, and I turn and look, and I see this guy with a thick beard looking at some comics, and I say, "Hey, you're Adam Warren," and you turn and looked at me and said, "Hey! You're...you!" And I laughed, and introduced myself to you, and told you how much I loved your work. I feel like I must have recognized you because of a picture in a magazine or something, I don't know.

Thanks for being a highlight of my first trip to the San Diego Comicon.

And nothing has changed, really. I still love your work.

Although I own all the books, I am following the website for Emp because commentary.  I encourage you to not worry about anachronism; that's part of the charm.  "Jilling"?  It was endearing, and I nearly miss it.  You say "Then again, Empowered quite often features jokes and riffs that only one person—namely, me—would be likely to appreciate, so what would the difference really be?"  ...don't underestimate us.  Not only are some of us pretty old, even the youngest yoots gotta enjoy some quirky turns of phrase.  How many librarians read Georgette Heyer?  Answer:  All of them.

Just wanted to say, I finished off the 9 vol of "Empowered" that my friend lent to me. I love the characters, art style, and the comedy is always spot on. The story has had such a great flow to me with the progression of each prominent character, so much that when I finished and found out vol 10 wouldn't be out I just sat down and said "Ok what do I do with myself?".

Thanks for a great story, I'm looking forward to more of your work.
